Nico Rivers and Emily Graham-Handley first performed together in a messy, college-student apartment in Cambridge, MA. Back then it was just a handful of singalongs before the two would part ways on parallel journeys to Los Angeles and back to Boston.

Reunited on the East Coast, the duo began performing together occasionally and it wasn’t long before they were touring in the Northeast and then off to Europe. Their first recorded collaboration was on Nico’s 2018 release, Tiny Death, which was accompanied with a Northeastern US and European tour.

Their live act adapts their songs in to a stripped-down setup featuring a variety of instruments to build a foundation for their beautifully crafted harmonies. Regularly touring as a duo, they also work with a regular band in Boston and have rocked some festivals with a handful of guest musicians in Europe.

Infotext: Beim Fynn Großmann Quintett kommt eine sehr unverstellte Emotionalität mit einem geradezu pedantischen Sinn für strukturelle und klangliche Klarheit zusammen. Unter Verzicht auf technische Spielereien entfalten die fünf Musiker im Zusammenspiel eine Soundpalette, die von intimen kammermusikalischen Eindrücken bis zur explosiven Anmutung von Bigband reicht. Jeder Klang, jede Harmonie und Melodie, jede rhythmische Verdichtung ist der verschwenderischen Vielfalt des Lebens abgelauscht. Diese Songs haben sich über Jahre angestaut, jetzt brechen sie heraus wie das Aprilgrün nach einem langen Winter.
Das Quintett setzt sich aus fünf MusikerInnen zusammen, die im Dreick Hamburg-Berlin-Hannover aktiv sind. Saxofonist Phillip Dornbusch, Pianist Marko Djurdjevic, Bassistin Clara Däubler, Drummer Johannes Metzger und nicht zuletzt Großmann selbst schicken sich gerade erst an, die Notenblätter ihres Lebens zu füllen. Gemeinsam werden die fünf Durchstarter durch eine Kombination aus heiterer Gelassenheit und barrierefreier Neugier geleitet, die sich unschwer erkennbar auf die Musik überträgt.
Nils Wogram, auf dessen Label „nWog Records“ das erste Album des Fynn Großmann Quintetts im Herbst erscheinen wird, sagt über die Band: „Irgendwie kann Fynn unverkrampft mit Vorbildern umgehen und auf einem hohen kompositorischen wie auch spielerischen Level eine sehr individuelle Sprache in seine Musik bringen. David Philips is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from the UK. His work as a solo artist and session guitar player has taken him around the world playing venues and festivals such as Montreaux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Marciac Jazz Festival (France) Delhi Jazz Festival (India), Woodford Folk Festival (Australia), Blue Balls Festival (Switzerland), Mare De Agosto Festival (Azores Islands), plus studio work and live shows in the U.S. and South East Asia. He has also written and recorded productions for companies such as MTV, VH1, Audi and Volkswagon and his Cigar Box Guitar driven song „What Am I?“ was used by Redbull, bringing a little more worldwide attention to his music. In 2017 his song „Hummingbird“ was used on History Channel’s navy seals based drama „Six“.
Philips self released his debut album “Heal Yourself Alone” in 2010 and was quickly selected as Album Of The Week by Robert Elms at BBC Radio London. It was also at #34 in the top 100 roots/country albums of 2011, compiled by Roots Music Report in the US. After a short tour of Holland and Belgium Philips signed with Black and Tan Records in Holland and released his next 4 albums with the Dutch label. Philips is known for his D.I.Y approach in the studio, writing, recording and producing all his albums himself as well as playing almost all instruments and tracking all vocals. The Rooftop Recordings (2011) was recorded in his rooftop apartment in Barcelona, Spain while December Wine (The 4 Track Tapes) (2013) is a selection of demos recorded using a Tascam 4 track cassette machine. 2015’s „If I Had Wings“ saw David expand as a composer and producer by including touches of electronica, psychedelia and jazz alongside his usual acoustic and voice approach.
